Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important representative said the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
